Nathan never got close to people... he hated it and it scared him. he had lost so many people that were incredibly close to him that it was almost unbearable for him to even consider getting close to another person. he had lost his parents, been in and out of the orphanage, and he was now taking care of his sick grandparents. for the longest time, things never seemed to be going his way and it looked like things were never going to start looking up for him. well, one day, things did change. it was something so simple that was a big deal with him. he had met someone who, unknowingly, changed his life. just a simple meeting and an exchange of phone numbers made something change. it was incredibly strange for him, but he actually enjoyed it. he, for once, wanted to get close to this person and get to know her, did it terrify him? hell yeah it did, but he was willing to overcome his fear of getting close for this girl... she just seemed different.
the more they got to know each other, the more he realized he had feelings for her. this came as a shock, but he jumped on the opportunity to actually ask her how she felt about him and if it was positive, he would ask her out. thankfully, her feelings were the same and she agreed to the date. after that, they talked quite a bit; every other day if not every day. they both wanted to take things slow and that's what they were doing. nate certainly didn't want to rush into anything and get hurt or get too overwhelmed, so it was safe for the both of them to just take things slow. he really liked her, but he didn't want to just ruin something that was going so well!
regardless of how many dates he had taken Harley out on, he was still beyond nervous. she made him nervous, but it was a good nervous. he still occasionally had anxiety attacks, but she always help and comforted him unless her felt a bit better and could finally breathe again. it wasn't something he could control, and he hated it, but he was used to it... he just didn't like the fact that he got anxiety attacks while he was with her. it was awful. this date, he was nervous as usual, but he tried to ignore it as he drove to her place to pick her up. he was excited to see her again and finally be able to speak with her in person rather than through text or a phone call. he always preferred face to face contact rather than using technology. it was just more personal and more humanly in his opinion.
he parked his car outside of her place and took a deep breath and he shut her car off. he exited the car and walked up the stairs before knocking on her door, waiting for her. this was his favorite part. he loved picking her up. he loved watching the door open and revealing what she had chosen to wear. he loved seeing her outfit. he loved seeing how she did her beautiful long, pink hair was styled - or not styled. he loved seeing how she had done her make up. he just loved seeing her, regardless of how she was dressed. she could be dressed in a hoodie, sweatpants, hair tied up, and no make up and she'd still be just as gorgeous. she was just amazing in his eyes.

One month. That was the exact span of time that had passed since Harley made a decision that would completely turn her life upside down – though in the best way possible. It was a decision that, prior to its existence, would never have passed through Harley’s mind; she was too stubborn and set in her ways to even consider it, but upon experiencing an encounter of a lifetime, she certainly couldn’t pass up such a…perfect opportunity. That being, the brief moment in which she met Nathaniel James Bryant; a strange and interesting figure that wandered into her life, or rather place of employment one afternoon simply looking for a jacket and instead sparking something else entirely.
One month since that man became the very definition of her world, and though sometimes she can’t believe it, considering that he is well out of her league, she wouldn’t have changed that decision for the world. Especially now when she was pacing through the small confines of her apartment, mumbling a string of curses as she desperately attempting to find her newest pair of combat boots in preparation for the couples afternoon date. She had looked through what seemed like every room in the residence, and with a limited range of locations they could be, somehow managed to miss them completely, as if they had simply disappeared from existence. She knew that wasn’t the case however, she had seen them the night before, she just didn’t remember where; typical.
Time was running out however, and though she had attempt more times than she could count to convince Nate to arrive a few minutes after the schedule hour, he simply wouldn’t agree, and now he was going to arrive in less than five minutes and she was nowhere near ready. Years ago, that wouldn’t have been the case; her significant other would have arrived fifteen minutes after the designated time, giving Harley extended periods to conclude her adjustments. That would never be the case again. It was just one of the many things that she would, eventually, learn to get used to for the sake of dating the foreign teddy bear – her teddy bear.
She let out another string of curses as she made what felt like the third round through the apartment, looking behind the various furniture and other belongings in the small space, swearing that she had done so already. Finally, with another glance between living room chairs, she found the boots stuffed deep within the shadowed confines. She certainly didn’t remember placing them there, and had no idea why she would even do so, but there was honestly no time to figure out her actions; she never understood them most of the time anyway.
Dropping herself onto a nearby chair, she pulled the boots out with a few quick tugs and began pulling them on, tying the laces as tight as she could possibly manage, with a brief hope that they would stay that way this time. Standing up, she adjust her black tank top, and quickly wandered back into her bedroom, snatching up the plaid black and white over shirt that sat crumbled on her bed. Pulling it on, she heard the heavy knock on the front door. She glanced across the room, catching the glowing blue numbers on her alarm clock that read three o’ clock. She rolled her eyes at the perfect timing, and quickly rushed out of the room, grabbing her wallet on the way, and stuffing it into her pocket. She pulled the door open suddenly, a smirk on her face as she caught the sight of Nate’s form waiting on the other side.
“You know, I’m happy to see you, right? But do you have to arrive precisely on the dot?” She asked, jokingly

Now, one month for these two was definitely an interesting month, that's for sure. It took some getting use to for the both of them, but it was good; it was good for them. Nathaniel felt that it was really one of the best decisions he had ever made and he was really glad he jumped on the opportunity to ask her out. Sure, it already had its ups and downs, but he enjoyed it a lot. He really like Harley and was hoping that he was going to screw this up as badly as he had screw things up for himself in the past.
The feelings that he had was really wild... It was something that he had never felt before, but it was amazing. The feeling it gave him was almost indescribable in a way, but he really enjoyed it. Being around her always made him feel relaxed and okay. He was stressed out a lot with everything going on in his life that it was usually hard for him to find something to distract him, but Harley was good at that. He didn't quite understand why, but once he saw her and was with her, all his cares seem to go away, as if they were never there. Yes, while he did always want those feelings to go away, that wasn't the only reason he hung out with Harley. With her, he felt more like himself... He felt more human with her than he could feel anywhere else. She just made him feel good and made him feel like things were going to finally be okay. Nobody made him feel that way, ever.
Nate always arrive early anytime he came to pick her up. Always. There was never a time where he arrived late at all and he wasn't ever planning on it no matter how many times she had insisted he did. He felt like arriving late wasn't very respectful and also wasn't very gentlemanly. He liked showed he was responsible and reliable, so that's really the main reason he showed up on time. The other reason for the early arrival was because he was so excited an anxious to see Harley that he couldn't stand to wait just a few more minutes to see her. He couldn't help it!
He knew that Harley hated going on date and honestly, it didn't bother him. He could understand why and he accepted it, but that didn't mean that he wasn't going to take her out anyway. She would just have to deal with it for a little while. A beautiful woman like her deserve to be taken out to a restaurant every once in a while. Although, the next date that Nate had planned just so happened to be silly, but cute, one. He wanted to just stay in for the night, make a nice dinner and watch some good movies with her... Maybe build a fort; who knows! Just a night to themselves where they could just lounge around together, because, really, that was the best kind of date.
Nate beamed as the door opened to reveal the pink-haired beauty, wearing the similar attire she usually did; black, black, and black. He chuckled at her words and rolled his eyes, assuming that she wasn't quite ready. "Hallo to you, too, little miss Harley," he greeted with a grin. He made a face at her before pointing to his car parked by the curb and pressing his lips together for a moment. "I can made a few rounds around the block if you need me too, love," he teased, his thick German accent coming through clearly as he spoke his words to her, "I'm in no rush."

One thing, out of the many, that Harley loved about Nate was his natural quality to be calm. It didn’t seem to matter what was going on in his life, how much stress he was under, or even how much she managed to get under his skin; he remained calm at all times. She had no idea how he did it - the smallest of things sent her on a rampage – but nothing seemed to bother him, at least on the outside. She knew he had a rough life, with a broken past, and a tangled present, but he stayed grounded in his ways; something kept him calm, and though she never tried to uncover what it was, assuming it was never her business, but she was glad it existed. It wasn’t because she could bug the hell out of him and he didn’t care, or because it made him seem like a simple man just enjoying life, but because it was different from her past experiences; her ex’s were all loud, angry assholes and Nate wasn’t. He was the exact opposite of everything she knew, and though it was hard to get used to, it was also hard not to appreciate.
She was able to do just that when she greeted him at the door. The typical, joking comment left her lips without consideration, and Nate just took it as if it was the most normal thinking the world. He chuckled in response to her words, and rolled his eyes to further the amusement of something that became much of a routine for the pair. He would arrive on time – as was his way – and Harley, never one to be ready on time, would greet him with a statement that though the meaning would suggest that his arrival time was unacceptable, was nothing more than a tease. He knew it too, of course, and he would proceed to further the joke, before she rushed around the apartment in a swift attempt to gather the rest of her belongings, while he waited patiently without a care in the world, and then the two would head out for their afternoon plans. It was their thing, and Harley kind of enjoyed it, though she would never admit it.
The moment was then followed by a brief statement of words from Nate, in which he made a brief comment about driving around the block a few times – clearly to give her some much needed time to finished getting ready – and was then followed by his gentleman like manner to declare that he wasn’t in a hurry. That of course, Harley enjoyed. Though it did cause her to wonder what he had in mind for the afternoon. It couldn’t have been dinner, at least nothing at a fancy restaurant, reservations would have to be made, and he would want to leave as soon as possible. It also couldn’t be a movie for the same, but not similar, reasons and anything beyond that was out of her realm of experience. Whatever it was however, he was in no hurry to arrive. God, why do you have to be so charming and mysterious? That’s entirely unfair. Harley though as she remained in the door way, staring across the brief distance between the two and attempting to hide a suspicious glare.
She finally shook herself out of the moment; a brief reminder going off in her mind that it would probably be polite to invite him inside, and finish getting ready. Damn him and his distracting face. “Uh, fuck, ignore my staring and come on in; I only need a few more minutes to round up my shit, and then we can head out to whatever mysterious event you have planned for the night.” She stated, before turning around and making her way back into the apartment, slowly listing everything off in her mind that she would, perhaps, need for the night. “Uh, feel free to make yourself comfortable, I’ll be right back” She mumbled before leaving the room, finding herself back in her bedroom, and automatically digging through her closet for her leather jacket – she probably didn’t need it, it was warm out, but it was better to be safe than sorry, at least that’s what everyone told her. This was probably one of the few times she had bothered to follow the advice. Jacket in hand, she took a brief glance around her room, trying to determine if there was anything else she needed. Finally concluding, probably for the third time in only a few brief minutes that she was ready to go, she wandered back into the living room. Nate was still by the door, perhaps suspecting that she wouldn't be long, - she said so, but she didn't always mean it - with a smile on his face, and his calm demeanor.
“Alright Swoopty-doo, I’m good to go.”
